Tattoo After Care
Please remember that your tattoo isn't considered complete until it has fully healed. It is your responsibility to ensure the proper care of your tattoo(s). Maintaining good hygiene and providing adequate care are crucial for minimising the risk of infection, facilitating healing, and preserving the vibrant ink. Below, you'll find my recommended healing method.
What you'll need:
Aftercare Balm (e.g., Dr. Pickles Original Formula)
Fragrance-free soap (e.g., Dr. Pickles Hemp Foam Wash)
Cling wrap
Microporous tape (optional)
Immediate Aftercare:
Keep the cling wrap applied by your artist on for 1-2 hours.
After 2 hours, remove the cling wrap and cleanse the tattoo with lukewarm soapy water (fragrance-free soap) until plasma and excess ink are removed.
Gently pat the tattoo dry with clean hands, using a paper towel or clean hand towel, and let it air-dry for a few hours.
Once dry, apply aftercare balm, gently rubbing it until an even, thin layer covers the tattoo.
Continued Aftercare:
Repeat the following process for 10 days to 2 weeks:
Wash the tattoo with lukewarm soapy water (fragrance-free soap) each morning and evening.
Apply aftercare balm twice daily or as needed when the tattoo appears dry.
Things to avoid during the healing period:
Avoid direct sunlight for at least 2 weeks. Apply sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 50+ only after the tattoo has fully healed, and continue protecting it from the sun thereafter.
Avoid baths, as hot water may detach scabs and loosen ink, potentially resulting in a patchy appearance when healed. Short showers are preferable during the first 2 weeks.
Refrain from swimming, using saunas, hot tubs, etc, during the healing process.
Avoid vigorous exercise, sports, and gym activities, as sweat may irritate the tattoo and lead to infection.
DO NOT pick or scratch the healing tattoo, as it may remove ink.
